According to the VY web site, nuclear energy is safe, clean, reliable. Nuclear energy has been promoted as being cheap and affordable. Yet there is a long history of cost overruns that make it more expensive. Now the aging plant has become a financial drain as reported in a link saying that Entergy, the owner of Vermont Yankee is losing value:
the fair value of its Vermont Yankee plant had dropped to $162 million — three times less than the carrying value at the time of $517.5 million.
