This blog has started with the notion of citizen monitoring around the nuclear power plant at Vernon. I recently received a link (h/t to Leslie) about citizen monitoring around the nuclear power plant around Browns Ferry Nuclear Power Plant in north Alabama. They have been able to establish 50 different sites and show their results on an interactive map that shows weather and cpm. When I looked at it today, I could see several places where rain was associated with higher counts. They found that counts per minute could vary from 30 to 1600! There is also a citizens’ guide to monitoring showing how they put their project together. I recommend this site to anyone interested in how to do citizen monitoring. There is further information about Geiger Counters on this blog.
