Chernobyl fire: Kiev claims no radiation threat, experts ring alarm bells

There was an article in the Smithsonian mentioned in this blog that much of the leaf litter around Chernobyl is so radioactive that normal biological decay has ceased. The article suggested that a forest fire could spread radiation throughout the area. The wise course would be to doubt the officials and to listen to the experts.
